The Central Bank of Paraguay has approved an update to the General Regulation of the Paraguayan Payment System, or SIPAP, centered on higher transaction capacity in the instant payments system and the addition of rules for new payment functionalities. The main change raises the maximum amount for each instant transfer through the Instant Payment System from PYG 5 million to PYG 10 million, allowing users to make 24/7 instant transfers up to that amount. The revised framework also incorporates provisions for new modules and functionalities, including CDA-d, the QR Hub and near-field communication, or NFC, payment technologies. Entities participating in the Instant Payment System must adjust their electronic channels made available to the public so they can process transfers at the new maximum amount from the rule’s entry into force. The update is intended to support broader use of electronic payments and facilitate faster transfers and payments between individuals and businesses.
