The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP) issued an ordinance establishing a consultative working group to discuss and propose diagnostics and recommendations for regulatory and legal improvements related to catastrophe insurance, in the context of natural disasters. The initiative aligns with SUSEP’s 2025 Regulation Plan, which identifies “Flooding and Inundation Coverage” as a key topic. The group is intended to provide input on how the insurance sector can support prevention and response to natural catastrophes, and will bring together SUSEP representatives, insurers, policyholders, other market participants, specialists and public authorities to foster dialogue and build consensus on alternatives that position insurance as a partner to public authorities in preventing and mitigating climate-related catastrophe losses. The working group will be coordinated by SUSEP’s Superintendent, meet periodically, and is expected to conclude its work within 60 days from publication of the establishing ordinance, with the possibility of a one-time extension for the same period.
