Netherlands' De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) announced that employees will return on 6 January 2025 to its renovated headquarters on Frederiksplein in Amsterdam after nearly five years of works aimed at making the building future-ready, more sustainable and more open to the public. The 67,000 m2 building will again serve as the home office for more than 2,300 Amsterdam-based staff and will include a knowledge hub and experience centre. Relocating cash operations and more than 200 tonnes of gold to a newly built Cash Centre in Zeist enabled DNB to open 4,800 m2 of public space in and around the former gold vault, branded “De Nieuwe Schatkamer”. DNB stated that choosing renovation over new construction saved 70,000 tonnes of construction materials and reduced environmental impact by 50%, with the upgraded building designed to meet the BREEAM Outstanding standard and to cut energy consumption and carbon emissions by more than 80% compared with pre-renovation levels; total project costs were EUR 320 million, including temporary accommodation and moves. De Nieuwe Schatkamer is scheduled to open to the public from March 2025.
