The National Bank of Georgia reported that its Governor, Natia Turnava, participated in the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI) annual symposium in Basel marking the CPMI’s 35th anniversary, where central bank leaders discussed the complexity of payment systems and the identification of risk areas within financial systems. The event brought together senior central bankers including the Governors of the Bank of England, the Reserve Bank of Australia, De Nederlandsche Bank and the Bank of Korea, alongside BIS and Bank of France leadership and former CPMI chairs. Turnava described the symposium as an opportunity to learn from international peers’ experience on payment systems and to present the National Bank of Georgia’s approaches to identifying and managing risk areas; the release also reiterated CPMI’s role as the key international standard setter for the safety and efficiency of payment, clearing and settlement systems.
