The U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs published a statement from Senator Tim Scott setting out that he will assume the chairmanship in the 119th Congress, becoming the first Black chair of a Senate standing committee. The release also noted that Scott will become the longest-serving Black senator in US history. Scott said he intends to focus on advancing his “Opportunity Agenda” and working with President Trump on his priorities, while also serving as chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. The Republican members listed for the Senate Banking Committee were Mike Crapo, Mike Rounds, Thom Tillis, John Kennedy, Bill Hagerty, Cynthia Lummis, Katie Britt, Pete Ricketts, Jim Banks, Kevin Cramer, Bernie Moreno, and Dave McCormick. The leadership change is set to take effect as the 119th Congress begins and Scott assumes the top spot on the committee.
