The Central Bank of Eswatini has begun issuing updated E10 and E20 banknotes, updating the denominations to reflect the country’s official name change from Swaziland to Eswatini while keeping the notes’ design, colour, size and substrate unchanged. Both denominations now display the new name, add a Siswati narrative on the obverse, incorporate the name and signature of Governor Dr. Phil Mnisi, and enhance the security thread to strengthen anti-counterfeiting measures. A Government Gazette has been issued confirming the updated notes are legal tender and are deemed to have taken effect on 1 April 2025. The Bank also warned the public to remain alert to counterfeit and dye-stained notes and to report suspicious currency, noting in the Governor’s Annual Monetary Policy Statement 2025 that discoveries of uncontrolled dye-stained notes linked to ATM bombings have declined and only one ATM bombing incident was reported during the financial year.
