The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) has deployed officials to Nakhon Ratchasima Province to coordinate with insurers and loss surveyors to accelerate compensation payments following a crane collapse from a State Railway of Thailand high-speed rail construction project onto Express Train No. 21, which derailed and caught fire on 14 January 2026. OIC teams inspected the accident scene alongside insurance companies and a disaster survey company and reported the claims status to the Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima Province. An insurer was described as being in the process of paying THB 1,000,000 in preliminary compensation for each deceased victim, without affecting heirs’ rights to pursue additional compensation or damages from insurers and other related parties; OIC staff also visited injured victims, monitored coverage information and provided claims reimbursement advice. To support claimants, the OIC is staffing an insurance assistance coordination centre at Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, operating daily during official hours on the second floor of the Princess Siam Crown Princess Accident and Emergency Center, and has instructed insurers to expedite claim consideration and payment while monitoring progress on an ongoing basis.
