The International Monetary Fund announced it will create a new regional capacity development center in Rome, Italy, to strengthen economic institutions and policymaking in Southeast Europe. The Southeast Europe Technical Assistance Center (SEETAC) will work with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia, as well as Moldova, with operations scheduled to start by January 2027. SEETAC will become the IMF’s eighteenth regional capacity development center worldwide and will provide tailored technical assistance on fiscal policy, monetary and financial sector policies, macroeconomic frameworks and forecasting, statistics, and legal issues. The center is intended to complement training for the region delivered through the IMF’s Joint Vienna Institute.
