The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission sent regional and provincial teams to the scene of a bus crash in Prachinburi province to verify insurance coverage and support claims handling for victims and families. The accident involved a 407 Phatthana scheduled bus colliding with an 18-wheel truck on Highway 304, leading to a fire, with preliminary reports of seven fatalities and more than 40 injuries; loss information is being tracked via the Office’s electronic platform for major incidents. Initial checks found the bus had compulsory motor insurance and voluntary motor insurance (Type 3) with Viriyah Insurance Public Company Limited, both covering 31 December 2024 to 31 December 2025. The compulsory policy provides THB 500,000 per person for death or permanent total disability, medical expenses up to THB 80,000 per person, loss of organ benefits of THB 200,000 to THB 500,000 per person, permanent disability benefits of THB 300,000 per person, and inpatient daily compensation of THB 200 per day for up to 20 days, with a maximum of THB 10,000,000 per incident. The Type 3 policy covers third-party bodily injury in excess of compulsory cover up to THB 800,000 per person (maximum THB 10,000,000 per incident), third-party property damage up to THB 1,000,000 per incident with a THB 5,000 deductible, and additional personal accident benefits under an endorsement. For injured victims being treated in hospital, the Office coordinated with the insurer to guarantee eligible medical costs directly with hospitals so patients do not need to pay upfront, while claims for fatalities remain subject to the ongoing investigation.
