The Chile Financial Market Commission (CMF) issued a public warning about entities offering loans online while falsely claiming to be supervised by the CMF and requiring advance payments for loans that do not materialise. The CMF reported the cases to the Public Prosecutor’s Office as alleged fraud. Complaints were filed against eight entities identified through the CMF Investigation Unit’s information gathering, including impersonators of regulated firms operating via websites, WhatsApp, and social media: Corporación Mater S.A. (impersonating Administradora Mater S.A.), Alternativa Financiera Global (impersonating Global Soluciones Financieras S.A.), Coopesol (impersonating Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito Solidaridad), Cooperativa Caja de Ahorro de Empleados Públicos (impersonating Caja de Ahorros de Empleados Públicos), Financiera Administradora Novotempo S.A. (impersonating Administradora Novotempo S.A.), Administradora Inversur Capital S.A. (operating through Facebook), Cooperativa Chile Ahorro (via chileahorro dot com), and MyPyme Préstamos Online (no known website). The CMF directed the public to its online Fraud Alerts Page to verify whether an entity or individual offering financial products or services is supervised by the CMF, review alerts issued by the CMF and foreign regulators, and access investor and customer protection guidance.
