The Superintendency of Banks of Panama (SBP) opened the XXIII Banking and Trust Update Conference under the theme “Financial Evolution: AI and the new legal paradigm”, positioning the event as a forum for technical and legal updating on banking, trust and broader financial-sector issues. The conference brings together magistrates, judges, prosecutors, legal advisers from public entities and the Ombudsman, creating a structured exchange between the legal, financial and supervisory communities. In his opening remarks, Superintendent Milton Ayón Wong inaugurated the event for the first time since taking office and linked the programme to strengthening the justice system and supporting a banking and trust sector aligned with international standards; he also framed the conference as a capacity-building tool for professionals involved in justice and financial supervision. Agenda topics include fiduciary responsibility and conflicts of interest, the impact of artificial intelligence on banking operations, and antifraud forensic auditing to reinforce internal controls and prevent financial crime, alongside a session on the constituent process and its legal implications for Panama’s institutional framework.
