Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren spoke to reporters after meeting with Kevin Warsh, President Trump’s nominee to chair the Federal Reserve, reiterating committee Democrats’ request that no hearing or votes be held on the nomination until what they described as pretextual criminal investigations involving Federal Reserve Chair Powell and Governor Cook have been closed. Warren also said the meeting raised further concerns about Warsh’s potential conflicts and the adequacy of his background review. Warren said Warsh has not disclosed more than USD 100 million in assets, limiting the ability to assess financial entanglements, potential conflicts, and whether they would be addressed. She also pointed to Warsh’s name appearing in publicly available Epstein files, while he claims to have no knowledge of anything related to this. Following a separate briefing from the White House on the FBI investigation into Warsh’s background, Warren said she was told the FBI conducted zero investigation into Warsh’s financial holdings, including those he is refusing to disclose, and zero investigation into why he appears in the Epstein files or whether he appears in other files that have not been made public.

U.S. Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren reiterated Democrats’ demand that no hearings or votes be held on Federal Reserve chair nominee Kevin Warsh until criminal investigations involving Jerome Powell and Lisa Cook are closed. She raised concerns over Warsh’s potential conflicts of interest, citing his refusal to disclose over USD 100 million in assets, his appearance in Epstein files, and what she described as an FBI review that did not examine his financial holdings or those references.
