The Bank of Albania governor confirmed during a press conference that the TIPS Clone instant payments platform is expected to become operational in November, or by the end of November at the latest. The project is in its final implementation phase, with the central bank working alongside Banca d’Italia, the European Central Bank and Albania’s banking sector. Following Albania’s accession to the Single Euro Payments Area, the platform will enable instant payments through infrastructure mirroring the European system and support SEPA credit transfers in line with European standards. Bank analysis estimates that widespread electronic payment adoption could generate annual savings of up to ALL 35 billion for the financial system and ALL 38 billion for the wider economy. If half of payments and transfers used the platform, households could save about ALL 500 million a year and businesses about ALL 1 billion.
