Bank of Albania Governor Gent Sejko outlined the central bank’s priorities for preserving policy credibility and advancing alignment with European Union standards during a panel at a Central Bank of Montenegro conference. He argued that a strong institutional framework, consistent policies and clear public communication are essential for anchoring expectations, maintaining trust and supporting macroeconomic stability amid repeated shocks. Sejko highlighted Albania’s inflation targeting framework and flexible exchange rate regime, alongside reforms to strengthen financial resilience, improve lending conditions and modernize payment infrastructure. EU alignment priorities include harmonizing central bank legislation with the European System of Central Banks framework, bringing supervision and regulation into line with Basel III and EU practices, and integrating further with European financial infrastructure. Following Albania’s accession to the Single Euro Payments Area, the TIPS Clone instant payments platform is expected to be implemented by the end of 2026, reducing transaction time and costs for individuals and businesses.
