The Slovenia Insurance Supervision Agency announced that its conference in Ljubljana on 11 September will feature a lecture by KU Leuven professor Yves Stevens focused on how demographic trends and rising longevity shape pension policy and influence the scope for future pension reforms through path dependency. The presentation will examine longevity through a historical and cultural lens and argue that, even when facing similar challenges, countries have developed different “pension identities”, with divergent responses driven not only by economic conditions but also by social and cultural factors affecting how ageing, work and old-age security are understood. The agency also highlighted Stevens’ roles as chair of the Occupational Pensions Commission at Belgium’s Financial Services and Markets Authority, a member of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority’s occupational pensions working group, and president of the International Network of Pension Researchers.
