The Argentina Superintendency of Insurance reported that the board of the Association of Latin American Insurance Supervisors (ASSAL) has approved the US National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ (NAIC) request to join ASSAL as an Associate Member, framing the move as a step to deepen cooperation between Latin American and US insurance supervisors. The update was presented during an “Insurance Week” session on global standards and the future of insurance regulation, where NAIC’s Ryan Workman outlined the US state-based supervisory model coordinated through the NAIC across 56 jurisdictions, and California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara highlighted the need for modern, flexible regulatory frameworks in response to technological, climate and economic change and rising catastrophe risk. Argentina’s Superintendent of Insurance, Guillermo Plate, read a welcome letter addressed to NAIC President Scott White formalising the ASSAL board’s approval. The decision is due to be ratified at ASSAL’s next General Assembly on 17 April in Costa Rica.
