Bank of Indonesia announced a collaboration with the Indonesian Army to expand public access to clean water through the United Water Program (Program Manunggal Air), which was symbolically inaugurated in Mojokerto, East Java. The programme will develop pumped water wells at 123 points across eight provinces and is intended to provide clean water access to 18,391 families, or around 37,085 people. The initiative forms part of the Bank Indonesia Social Program (PSBI) focused on environmental priorities, particularly clean water supply, and is positioned as supporting the government’s Asta Cita 2 agenda. Delivery is expected to include hydraulic pumps, drilled wells, gravity systems and pipe networks, with prioritisation of areas facing water constraints but with high agricultural potential. Bank Indonesia linked the clean water build-out to broader economic effects, including support for agriculture and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and the role of maintaining agricultural production in supporting stable inflation; the Indonesian Army cited an estimate of 27 million Indonesians lacking access to clean water and said the programme has, since inception, provided access to water for 1.2 million Indonesians by bringing sources closer to communities.
