The Central Bank of Mexico has put into circulation 12 commemorative coins for the FIFA World Cup 2026 to be hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada. The set comprises four dodecagonal MXN20 bimetallic coins for general circulation and eight limited-edition precious metal coins, consisting of four MXN25 gold coins and four MXN10 silver coins. Nine coins are dedicated to Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, the Mexican host cities, and three highlight Mexico's natural, historical and cultural heritage. All 12 coins are legal tender under Mexico's monetary law and were struck by the Mexican Mint. The bimetallic series covers Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey and a Mexico-themed design, and includes latent image and microtext security features. The precious metal series includes gold and silver versions for each of the three host cities plus one gold and one silver coin honouring Mexico more broadly. The gold coins contain one quarter troy ounce of 0.999 gold and the silver coins contain one troy ounce of 0.999 silver. The bimetallic coins may be used for any payment and will be distributed through the banking system from the third banking business day after issuance. The gold and silver coins will go on sale to the public in Mexico through authorised distributors, including the Mexican Mint and the Interactive Museum of Economics, from the second half of May.
