The Central Bank of Mongolia, working with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, held a workshop to present findings from the research paper “Assessment of the Banking Law Shareholding Requirements and Banks’ Compliance Strategies”, aimed at assessing whether current policy measures are effectively reducing concentrated bank ownership and informing future strategic direction. The study also reviewed governance and operational changes following banks’ transition to joint-stock companies. Ernst & Young conducted the research and highlighted key issues including potential strategies to diversify bank ownership, proposed legislative amendments, and other insights from the assessment. The workshop brought together the Bank of Mongolia’s Governor and senior officials, representatives from the EBRD and the American Chamber of Commerce, and a range of commercial banking and financial sector stakeholders for discussion.
