The Ministry of Finance (Cyprus) announced that Finance Minister Makis Keravnos will travel to Brussels on 18 January 2026 to participate in the Eurogroup meeting on 19 January and chair the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) meeting on 20 January. The Eurogroup agenda includes a briefing on the latest developments in Bulgaria’s process of adopting the euro, an exchange on the euro area’s economic policy priorities for 2026 based on European Commission recommendations issued in November, a briefing on recent G7 finance ministers’ meetings, presentation of France’s 2026 presidency priorities, and a debate on nominations for the post of Vice-President of the European Central Bank. At ECOFIN, discussions are set to cover the Cyprus Presidency work programme on economic and financial issues and the economic and fiscal impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, alongside adoption of revised Recovery and Resilience Plans for Spain, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and Finland, conclusions on the 2026 Alert Mechanism Report, and a decision to open an excessive deficit procedure for Finland.
