The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority issued a board decision increasing the maximum insurance coverage under the Government Insurance Fund for the Care of School Students of Egypt to EGP 30,000 from EGP 20,000, alongside changes to related benefits and the subscription collected with school fees. The authority described the package as the first application of Article 60 of the Unified Insurance Law. The decision raises the payment to EGP 15,000 from EGP 10,000 for natural deaths and for accidents that do not meet the conditions for school accidents, without restrictions on the place or time of death. Partial permanent disability benefits are set as a percentage of the insured amount up to the EGP 30,000 cap, with the disability percentage determined by a competent medical body designated by the fund’s board; the fund’s scope also includes cover for deaths (natural or accidental), bodily injuries and resulting disability, and necessary surgeries and medical treatments. Subject to the availability of a financial surplus, the fund may provide medical assistance for chronic diseases of up to EGP 2,500 up to three times during the study period, and the fund’s chair may approve support for surgeries that are uninsured or partially insured up to EGP 30,000; additional measures include a one-off EGP 1,750 treatment contribution for students with disabilities and a one-off contribution of up to EGP 30,000 for prosthetic devices not available through the health insurance system. The amendments apply from the 2025–2026 academic year.
