The European Central Bank published its weekly balance sheet as at 18 April 2025, showing total assets and liabilities of EUR 6,329,339 million, down EUR 482 million from the previous week due to transactions. The most pronounced changes were a decline in securities held for monetary policy purposes and a fall in the deposit facility alongside higher current account balances. Securities of euro area residents denominated in euro fell by EUR 9,425 million to EUR 4,366,903 million, mainly reflecting a EUR 9,185 million decrease in securities held for monetary policy purposes to EUR 4,086,226 million. Lending to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations increased by EUR 3,110 million to EUR 25,206 million, driven by main refinancing operations rising by EUR 3,090 million to EUR 11,937 million. On the liability side, banknotes in circulation increased by EUR 6,051 million to EUR 1,579,868 million, while liabilities to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations decreased by EUR 38,274 million to EUR 2,930,400 million as the deposit facility declined by EUR 80,602 million to EUR 2,730,689 million and current accounts rose by EUR 42,328 million to EUR 199,711 million.
