The Capital Markets Board of Türkiye announced that its chair, İbrahim Ömer Gönül, has been elected Vice Chair of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Growth and Emerging Markets (GEM) Committee for the 2025–2026 term. The vice chair role also brings membership of the IOSCO Board. IOSCO GEM has 116 members and is described as IOSCO’s largest committee, with a mandate to promote the development and efficiency of securities and futures markets in emerging economies. The IOSCO Board is IOSCO’s executive body, responsible for taking decisions needed to advance IOSCO’s objectives and placing them on the agenda of the Presidents Committee; IOSCO also works with other international bodies, including the G20 and the Financial Stability Board. The Capital Markets Board of Türkiye also referenced that it hosted the IOSCO GEM Annual Meeting and Conference at the Presidential Complex on 17–19 December 2024, where topics included sustainability, crypto and digital assets, and financial literacy, with participation from around 40 countries’ market authority heads and senior international organisation representatives.
