The Central Bank of Chile has unveiled the design and issuance plan for a special-edition CLP 100 coin marking its centenary, which will be introduced gradually into circulation from 21 July. The coin will be legal tender with a nominal value of 100 pesos and can be used in any cash transaction from the start of circulation. The commemorative coin will keep the same physical characteristics and dimensions as the current bimetallic CLP 100 coin, with the main change being the centenary logo on the obverse. It will not replace the existing bimetallic CLP 100 coin, meaning both will circulate simultaneously, alongside the larger monometallic CLP 100 coin that stopped being issued in 2000. Distribution will occur through commercial banks and then through established commerce, with the Bank also warning that versions of the coin should not be accepted before the 21 July issuance date.
