The Bank of Mauritius issued a public notice disputing media reports that the Minutes of Proceedings of its Board were modified on 13 and 20 November 2024, and announced it has commissioned a full enquiry into the matter. It also clarified that no Board meetings were held on those two dates and that the Bank’s official Board records are maintained physically. The notice states that the Board was reconstituted on 15 January 2025 and held its first meeting on 17 January 2025, with all Board documents physically dispatched to members and all decisions and minutes recorded and retained in physical form as the official records. Electronic archiving is maintained separately for reference, with custody of the official electronic archive held by another officer to whom the Acting Secretary submits the official physical documents after each Board meeting. It further sets out that, on 27 August 2025, former Second Deputy Governor Gerard Sanspeur requested an IT audit of the Acting Secretary’s folder, which was carried out without prior consultation and approval of the Board or the Governor as Chairman, and was conducted on the Acting Secretary’s personal folder rather than the Bank’s official electronic archive. The Bank stated it will respond to media queries to the extent permissible by law and asked media outlets to verify information before publishing articles concerning the Bank.
