The Central Bank of Oman announced that the International Bank Account Number (IBAN) will go live for domestic financial transactions from 1 July 2025 and directed local banks to stop receiving incoming cross-border transfers that do not include an IBAN. From that date, IBAN will be mandatory for all incoming international transactions. The expansion follows the Central Bank of Oman’s implementation of IBAN for international transfers on 31 March 2024. Local banks have been instructed to run customer awareness campaigns on using IBAN and to provide guidance to support safer and faster transaction processing, while customers are urged to obtain their IBAN from their banks and use it for all transfers.
