The Bank of Spain published an expression of interest to select candidates for the position of Deputy Director General of Economics, linked to organisational changes as Galo Nuño is set to join as Director General of Institutional and European Relations and Transparency. The Directorate General of Economics is responsible for monitoring and forecasting economic developments, producing analytical studies and policy positions, advising the Governor on monetary policy for European Central Bank Governing Council matters, preparing medium-term macroeconomic projections for Spain, and drafting the Annual Report and other publications. The Deputy Director General role supports the Director General by helping define strategy and analytical frameworks, developing innovative analytical approaches, representing the directorate in internal and external committees when substituting for the Director General, managing planning and resources, and coordinating across directorates. Candidates are expected to have at least 15 years’ experience in economic research or management, preferably in central banking or European or international institutions, strong knowledge of economic and monetary frameworks, and high-level Spanish and English; a PhD and/or relevant publications are listed as desirable. Applications must be submitted by 14:00 on 12 September 2025 and include a CV and motivation letter in both Spanish and English. Appointment of deputy directors general is made by the Executive Commission on the Governor’s proposal and requires ratification by the Governing Council.
