The International Monetary Fund published an end-of-mission statement after a staff team led by Aliona Cebotari visited Libreville for technical discussions on recent economic and policy developments in Gabon. The statement sets out preliminary staff views and notes the visit will not result in an IMF Executive Board discussion. Discussions covered the implementation of Gabon’s national growth and development plan and highlighted potential benefits from ongoing reforms to strengthen public financial management and governance, improve the business climate, and fight corruption. The staff team also underscored the importance of maintaining prudent fiscal and financial policies to safeguard macroeconomic stability in Gabon and the wider region, and met with senior political and economic authorities as well as the Presidential Taskforce on Debt, the Bank of Central African States, state-owned enterprises, and financial sector representatives. Policy dialogue is expected to continue in the coming weeks, including during the upcoming IMF Spring Meetings.
