The National Bank of Serbia published its report on counterfeits detected in January–June 2025, covering banknotes identified through its expertise procedures. It recorded 3,119 counterfeit banknotes across domestic currency and foreign currency in circulation, with euro banknotes the most common and counterfeit Serbian dinars concentrated in higher denominations. Of the 966 counterfeit dinar banknotes, RSD 2,000 notes accounted for 804 pieces (83.23%), while RSD 1,000 (64) and RSD 500 (63) brought the combined share of those three denominations to 96.38%; in value terms, RSD 2,000 represented 86.73% and RSD 5,000 8.09% of the RSD 1,854,020 nominal total. Relative to cash in circulation, the report shows 1.44 counterfeit dinar notes per million genuine notes and RSD 3,410.24 of counterfeit value per billion dinars in circulation. Foreign currency expertise identified 2,153 counterfeit banknotes, comprising 1,774 euros mainly in €200 and €100 denominations and 379 US dollars in $50 and $100, with no other currencies detected; measured in dinars, euro counterfeits accounted for RSD 33,799,601.11 (86.09%) of the total nominal dinar equivalent of all counterfeits (RSD 39,260,182.10). The report also notes that 33 of 200 examined €2 coins were counterfeit.
