The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) has launched its fifth training programme for applicants seeking to be listed as external experts who can serve as insurance dispute mediators under the OIC’s 2016 insurance dispute mediation rules, with a redesigned curriculum intended to improve the effectiveness of consumer dispute resolution. The programme ran on 26–27 March 2025 in Bangkok, with 100 participants who had passed an initial eligibility screening. The OIC streamlined both subject matter and training time into a 12-hour course covering four core modules, including mediation criteria and procedures for insurance disputes, mediation approaches, key elements of the 2019 Mediation Act, and insurance law and insurance products. Participants must pass written and interview examinations, after which the 50 highest-scoring candidates will be entitled to registration as OIC insurance dispute mediators under cohort 5. The OIC noted that the cohort 4 registration list reached the end of its two-year term on 15 November 2024, and that existing listed mediators continue performing their duties until the new list is finalised.
