The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance reported that its Director, Júlia Normande Lins, attended BRICS discussions in Rio de Janeiro aimed at deepening economic cooperation among member countries. The BRICS leaders’ final declaration referenced discussions to strengthen members’ reinsurance capacity through a finance ministers-endorsed task force with voluntary participation by relevant stakeholders, including regulators, BRICS-country reinsurers and the BRICS Business Council. Lins participated in the third meeting of technical representatives from BRICS finance ministries and central banks, which covered global economic governance, climate financing and intra-BRICS cooperation, and then attended the first meeting of BRICS finance ministers and central bank governors in Brazil, where documents setting out the main follow-up actions were endorsed. The reinsurance topic had already been under discussion during Brazil’s BRICS presidency and was previously addressed in an April virtual seminar co-hosted by Brazil’s Ministry of Finance and SUSEP titled “Global (Re)Insurance Scenario”. Brazil currently holds the BRICS presidency, which is set to be assumed by India in 2026.
