The Central Bank of Peru reported that the value of Peru’s non-traditional fishery exports rose to USD 272 million in April, a 190.2% increase from the same month a year earlier, driven mainly by higher shipped volumes. Volumes increased 140.1%, supported by greater availability of pota biomass linked to more food in its habitat, particularly anchoveta. Shipments of frozen and canned pota rose 342.8% and 244.2%, respectively, while international prices remained elevated after last year’s limited Peruvian supply, with frozen pota prices up 55.1% and canned pota prices up 93.6%. For January to April 2025, non-traditional fishery exports totalled USD 663 million, up 51.2% year on year, reflecting a 24% increase in volumes and a 21.9% rise in prices.
