Mexico’s Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, through its Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), signed a memorandum of understanding with the United States Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) to establish a cooperation framework for exchanging financial intelligence. The MoU enables the UIF to set up collaboration and mutual assistance arrangements, strengthening operational cooperation and information flows without creating legally binding rights or obligations. The agreement is intended to bolster both institutions’ ability to detect and analyse financial flows linked to transnational crimes, with a specific focus on illicit arms trafficking, and sits alongside the UIF’s ongoing coordination with national and international authorities in line with applicable law and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards.
