The Central Bank of Slovenia has published climate-related disclosures for its own financial asset portfolio, outlining how its socially responsible and sustainable investing strategy is changing portfolio composition and reducing climate-related risk exposures. The disclosure reports a sharp increase in holdings of green, social and sustainable bonds and material reductions in the carbon footprint of selected portfolios. Holdings of green, social and sustainable bonds rose by almost EUR 180 million during 2024 to EUR 625 million at end-2024, representing almost 11% of the central bank’s holdings of financial assets, up from EUR 32 million (less than 1%) at end-2018. Over 2024, the weighted average carbon intensity of the non-financial corporate bond portfolio fell by around 22% and that of the equity portfolio by around 40%, leaving carbon intensity about 60% below benchmark indices for non-financial corporate bonds and about 40% below for equities. The central bank reiterated a long-term aim to come as close as possible to net zero greenhouse gas emissions in its own asset portfolio by 2050, aligned with the EU climate neutrality strategy. It also set medium-term milestones for end-2025, noting it has already exceeded a EUR 600 million target for green, social and sustainable bonds and will continue to reduce the carbon footprint of private-sector issuer holdings across corporate bonds (financial and non-financial), covered bonds and shares.
