The Belgium Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) announced that the tenth edition of Belgian Money Week, run by its Wikifin financial education programme, will take place from 17 to 21 March and has reached a record level of participation, with more than 170,000 pupils registered. The FSMA also signalled that it will present findings from its study “Young people want to learn more about money” and outline future financial education initiatives at the opening event. Participation covers more than 170,000 elementary and secondary school pupils, up by 45,000 from last year. Activities include budget-management board games in elementary schools led in part by FSMA staff, and the Wikifin Quiz for secondary schools on topics including saving, means of payment and fraud; Wikifin is also launching a new online game for secondary pupils, “Talking Money”. The anniversary edition will be opened on 17 March at the Wikifin Lab in Brussels by European Commissioner for Financial Services and the Savings and Investments Union Maria Luís Albuquerque and Deputy Prime Ministers David Clarinval and Jan Jambon, with the winners of the Wikifin Challenge receiving their prize from the Commissioner. The FSMA indicated it will continue and expand its financial education work, with increased attention to the 18–25 age group.
