The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) has launched a 2025 pilot initiative with Prachinburi province to develop a model area for road safety measures alongside a campaign to increase awareness and uptake of compulsory motor insurance, supported by a joint working structure with local agencies. The programme, part of OIC and the Victim Compensation Fund’s 2025 workplan, is designed to combine in-depth research with targeted on-the-ground interventions, close monitoring and evaluation, with the aim of producing measures that can be scaled nationally. Prachinburi was selected as the pilot province due to its potential to reduce road-traffic fatalities and its role as an industrial and economic transport hub; the provincial governor assigned local agencies to establish a working group with OIC to drive delivery. OIC also indicated that research findings will be used to review and improve the coverage terms of the Motor Vehicle Accident Victims Protection Insurance to reflect current economic conditions and better address incidents involving large numbers of passengers.
