The National Bank of Denmark published data showing Danish investors made record purchases of foreign securities totaling DKK 321 billion in 2024, lifting their foreign securities holdings by DKK 847 billion to DKK 5,355 billion by the end of the year when combined with price gains. Demand was concentrated in foreign equities, with about half of purchased shares being American and the remainder mainly European and Japanese, alongside purchases of bonds and investment funds. Around two-thirds of bond purchases were German and Swedish government bonds. Valuation gains were driven especially by price increases in US listed shares, which rose to DKK 1,456 billion and now represent more than a quarter of Danish investors’ total foreign securities holdings.
