The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has released its quarterly industry aggregate insurance statistical publications for the December 2025 quarter, covering general insurance, life insurance and private health insurance performance, alongside detailed private health insurance membership and benefits statistics. The general insurance performance statistics provide aggregate summaries of financial performance and position, investments and capital adequacy, with breakdowns by class of business and state. Life insurance statistics present industry aggregate financial performance and position and capital adequacy, with results by product group and a split between ordinary and superannuation business. Private health insurance publications include industry aggregate financial performance and position and capital adequacy, plus separate datasets on membership, coverage, benefits paid, medical gaps, medical devices or human tissue products, and medical services, including trend reports. Across the suite, APRA notes the content has been updated to reflect the new insurance reporting framework effective from 1 July 2023 and that historical datasets collected under the prior basis are not directly comparable. APRA indicates the quarterly general insurance institutional-level statistics remain on hiatus and it intends to consult in future on confidentiality under the new reporting standards and on updates to institutional-level insurance statistics. The next quarterly release is scheduled for May 2026 (March 2026 edition).
