The Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Police issued a joint alert warning the public about phishing SMS messages claiming to be from the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) and the HKMA. The messages purport to help recipients recover frozen assets or funds paid to scammers, direct them to bogus law firms, and ask for bank account information or money transfers. The authorities stressed that police officers will not contact members of the public on personal financial matters and will not authorise any law firm to recover fraud losses, and urged the public not to trust messages, social media pages or advertisements offering recovery services. They also highlighted that the ADCC’s registered SMS sender ID is “#ADCC18222” and that official ADCC SMS messages contain no hyperlinks and only provide the Anti-Scam Helpline 18222.
