The Central Bank of Luxembourg published the results of its August 2025 consumer survey, showing mixed movements in household sentiment. While the release notes a marked pullback in confidence, the central bank’s composite consumer confidence indicator nonetheless edged up slightly to -9 in August from -10 in July. The improvement was driven by a very strong rebound in households’ assessment of their past financial situation (to 1 from -7). Expectations for households’ own future financial situation eased slightly (to 2 from 3), expectations for the general economic situation in Luxembourg were unchanged (at -21), and intentions to make major purchases weakened (to -19 from -16). The headline indicator is the arithmetic average of the four seasonally adjusted component balances, which are calculated as the difference between the weighted shares of consumers expecting improvement and those expecting deterioration.
