The Financial Services Superintendency of the Central Bank of Uruguay issued a public warning that the entity or individual offering loans on social media under the name “Mi Crédito” is not registered with the Central Bank and has no authorisation to operate. The alert flags indications that the offers are intended to induce recipients to make advance payments on false pretexts, after which the promised funds are not delivered. The notice also highlights cases where individuals contacting users use fraudulent email addresses and provide fake documentation bearing logos of state institutions or agencies, creating confusion about the authenticity of the information. The Superintendency advised the public to seek clear, truthful and sufficient information on the provider and the terms of any credit offer, and to avoid providing money, documents, bank account details, credit card information, passwords or other personal data in connection with a loan request without proper verification and informed consent.
