The Bank of Cape Verde’s Behavioural Supervision Office announced a programme of activities running from 17 to 28 March 2025 under the 13th edition of Global Money Week, centred on improving children’s and young people’s financial education and encouraging critical assessment of financial information and recommendations found online, including from “finfluencers”. Flagship events include open discussions on 17 March at the Ribeira Grande de Santiago City Hall and on 19 March on Community Radio Voz de Ponta d’Água (with the Maracanã Cultural and Sports Association). The sessions will cover digital finance and how consumers interact with online financial services, including the growing use of artificial intelligence, and related risks such as scams, financial fraud, phishing, online shopping fraud, data privacy and identity theft, and misinformation. The programme also addresses behavioural finance topics, including emotions and biases that can distort decision-making under peer pressure or social media influence, alongside practical themes such as saving and online safety. The 2025 campaign runs under the motto “Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow” and prioritises outreach to community associations and schools in peripheral areas. In Cape Verde, the initiative is organised by the Bank of Cape Verde with partners including the Cape Verde Stock Exchange, Fin Academy, PROFIN, Uni-CV’s School of Business and Governance, AJECON and OEJ.Juventude.
