The National Bank of Georgia has published annual usage data indicating continued growth in Georgia’s Open Banking ecosystem, reporting more than 915,000 Open Banking transactions between February 2025 and February 2026 and total service usage exceeding 9.3 million. Open Banking is described as enabling customer-controlled data sharing and secure payment initiation via standardized application programming interfaces (APIs) based on explicit, informed consent. The NBG traced the ecosystem’s rollout from initial infrastructure work in 2019 to operational launch in 2021 when commercial banks began offering products, and noted a broadening beyond banks in July 2024 when the first non-bank entity was authorised to participate. Over the past year, the NBG also reported more than 5,000 uses of account information, payment initiation, and digital onboarding services, and highlighted growing interest from retail and e-commerce businesses. The NBG stated that both supervised entities and organisations previously outside its supervision can participate, subject to meeting requirements, including by providing Account Information Services and Payment Initiation Services and implementing account-to-account payments on their platforms. Prospective participants are directed to follow the “Regulation on Joining Open Banking.”
