The Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia published an update on the IV International Conference on Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights, being held in Georgia on November 13–15, which it is jointly organising with the Competition and Consumer Protection Agency, the National Bank, the National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) and the Communications Commission. The event aims to strengthen competition policy in Georgia and improve consumer rights protection mechanisms, drawing on international and local practice. The conference brings together heads of competition and consumer protection agencies from up to 20 countries and representatives of international organisations including the World Bank, UNCTAD, the OECD, the International Competition Network, the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network and Consumers International. The opening session included participation from the Service’s Deputy Head Ekaterine Tsereteli and featured keynote addresses from UNCTAD’s Teresa Moreira and the OECD’s Bridget Akoka; the programme includes 10 panel discussions and sectoral research presentations covering topics such as competition and consumer protection in regulated sectors, protections for children and vulnerable users, consumer protection trends in Georgia and internationally, and concentration control. A memorandum of cooperation between counterpart competition and consumer protection agencies is scheduled to be signed during the conference to strengthen mutual cooperation.
