The Central Bank of Syria announced the reopening of its branch in Raqqa, restoring the institution’s presence in the province after a closure of more than 14 years. The move re-establishes central bank banking and financial services locally and is intended to make it easier for public bodies and service institutions to complete financial transactions in Raqqa. The branch will provide basic banking services, support direct processing of financial transactions for administrative and service institutions, and assist with the replacement of old currency. The reopening is also presented as reconnecting Raqqa to the country’s financial system and reducing the need for residents and institutions to travel to other provinces to complete banking procedures. The release adds that easier financial and banking processes could support investment activity and improve access to financial services for the agricultural sector.
