The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten announced that its Monetary Policy, Economics and Statistics Division has held a series of stakeholder sessions in Sint Maarten to strengthen collaboration and improve the collection of economic data used for forecasting and policymaking. The sessions focused on explaining how the central bank gathers, analyses and applies data, and highlighted the need for accurate and timely inputs from stakeholders across Curaçao and Sint Maarten to support monetary policy decisions. Separately, central bank representatives met with the Institut d’Émission des Départements d’Outre-Mer (IEDOM) to exchange macroeconomic information and discuss cooperation aimed at improving understanding of economic linkages between Sint Maarten and Saint Martin. A memorandum of understanding on data exchange with IEDOM is expected to be signed in the coming months. The central bank also plans to make the stakeholder sessions a regular feature and to hold a symposium later in the year in Sint Maarten on the importance of data and ongoing economic research.
