The National Bank of Georgia reported that Governor Natia Turnava took part in the 95th Annual Meeting of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel, Switzerland, where discussions centred on how emerging and transition economies are expanding cross-border payments. The agenda also covered challenges in payment systems, identification of financial-system risks, and banking security in the age of artificial intelligence. During the visit, Turnava met with European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde to exchange views on current challenges facing the global financial system and thanked her for the ECB’s continued support on behalf of the National Bank of Georgia. The meeting brought together governors and senior officials from BIS member central banks and other high-level guests, including leaders from the Bank of England, the U.S. Federal Reserve and the People’s Bank of China.
