The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City released new interactive “LMI Data Books” designed to help users with minimal data experience explore and visualize publicly available data on low- and moderate-income (LMI) populations. The tools provide county-level views across the Kansas City Fed’s seven-state region, covering Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and parts of Missouri and New Mexico. The dashboards compile indicators on demographics, employment, wages and housing, aimed at supporting organizations and government agencies serving LMI communities, as well as enabling the public to assess local economic conditions that are often difficult to measure for LMI populations. In initial findings highlighted with the release, wages for low- and moderate-wage jobs across the Tenth District have not risen as quickly as wages for middle- and high-wage jobs; housing price increases have slowed in most communities at a similar pace across LMI and non-LMI areas; and rents in LMI communities have declined on average, while rising in some locations including Wyandotte County, Kansas.
