The National Bank of Romania released provisional monetary statistics for end-August 2025, showing broad money (M3) at RON 751,138.0 million, slightly lower than in July and up 8.3% from a year earlier. The release also reports a modest monthly rise in credit to the non-government sector and a fall in resident non-government deposits. M3 decreased 0.1% m/m (-2.2% in real terms) and increased 8.3% y/y (-1.4% in real terms), with other financial instruments remaining at zero so M2 equalled M3. Net foreign assets stood at RON 389,706.5 million (0.1% m/m; 11.6% y/y) and net domestic assets at RON 361,431.5 million (-0.3% m/m; 5.0% y/y). Non-government credit reached RON 440,650.6 million (0.4% m/m; 8.0% y/y), including leu credit of RON 305,335.0 million (69.3% share) and foreign-currency credit of RON 135,315.6 million; credit to government rose to RON 256,112.8 million (0.8% m/m; 16.3% y/y). Deposits of resident non-government clients totalled RON 632,656.1 million (-0.4% m/m; 7.0% y/y), with leu deposits increasing to RON 430,392.6 million and foreign-currency deposits falling to RON 202,263.4 million. The next monetary indicators release, covering September 2025, is scheduled for 23 October 2025, and the National Bank of Romania noted the data are provisional and may be revised.
