The Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) issued a fraud warning about an online scam using images of local politicians, an ITV Channel presenter and the Jersey Evening Post logo to appear legitimate. The scam is promoted through targeted Facebook adverts for a purported “government investment platform” claiming high returns for little investment, which the JFSC says is not genuine and is not linked to the individuals or organisations depicted. The JFSC also highlighted an increase in impersonation scams where criminals pose as professionals, government authorities, financial regulators, well-known organisations or personal contacts, using real names, cloned websites, copied branding and AI-generated images or voices to pressure victims into transferring money or sharing personal information. It urged the public to be cautious with unsolicited opportunities and to verify firms’ regulated status, company registration details and relevant registered persons via the JFSC’s online registers, and to report suspected cases to the JFSC’s Enforcement team, the States of Jersey Police and their bank if a payment has already been made.
